ODIN -The Norse Collection - Jörmungandr – Norse World Serpent

In Norse mythology, the serpent Jörmungandr, also known as the Midgard Serpent was the son of Loki, the god of mischief, and the giantess Angrboda along with the wolf  Fenrir and Hel – the Goddess of Death. He was banished from Asgard, home of the Æsir, the Norse pantheon, by Odin to the great sea that surrounds the mortal world of Midgard to be destroyed by the ocean’s relentless waves. Instead he began to consume it and grew so large he could encircle the entire planet and bite his own tail like an oroborus. He battled Thor, his arch enemy, twice indecisively and their last meeting is predicted to occur at Ragnarok where Thor will kill Jörmungandr but then walk only nine paces before succumbing to the serpent's venom. This battle will be the end of the world, but afterwards a new heaven and earth will rise out of the sea in which humans and gods will live in perfect harmony forever.
