EIRE-The Celtic Collection - Celtic Axehead
The Axe was preferred by the strongest warriors. Heavier and bulkier than a sword, it could do more damage to one’s opponent. It appealed to those who were confident of their raw power. Axes also had a ceremonial use in making sacred sacrifices. These were the ancient blood offerings still remembered in the histories of so many nations. Although most peoples have abandoned animal sacrifices, the axe remains a symbol of the unity of humans and the gods and Goddesses.
